Fleury-Mérogis a choisi Joséphine Baker pour incarner Marianne, dévoilant un buste à son effigie lors d'une cérémonie en présence de son fils, Brian Bouillon Baker. Cette initiative célèbre le centenaire de l’arrivée en France de l’icône du music-hall et les 50 ans de sa disparition. Résistante, militante antiraciste et artiste engagée, elle symbolise les valeurs de la République. L'œuvre a été réalisée par Lucas Bouan Tsobgny, jeune diplômé des Beaux-Arts de Paris, sélectionné après un concours. Le buste, intégrant ses médailles et une discrète ceinture de bananes, sera installé à l'hôtel de ville. Le maire, Olivier Corzani, souligne que ce choix reflète l’identité diverse et engagée de la commune. Depuis son entrée au Panthéon, de nombreux lieux portent le nom de Joséphine Baker, témoignant de son héritage universel et de son influence intemporelle.

Fleury-Mérogis has chosen Joséphine Baker to embody Marianne, unveiling a bust in her likeness during a ceremony attended by her son, Brian Bouillon Baker. This initiative marks the centenary of the music hall icon’s arrival in France and the 50th anniversary of her passing. A resistance fighter, anti-racist activist, and committed artist, she represents the values of the Republic. The sculpture, created by Lucas Bouan Tsobgny, a recent graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, was selected through a competition. The bust, incorporating her medals and a subtle banana belt, will be placed in the town hall. Mayor Olivier Corzani emphasized that this choice reflects the town’s diverse and engaged identity. Since her induction into the Panthéon, numerous places have been named after Joséphine Baker, demonstrating her universal legacy and lasting influence.

Esta iniciativa conmemora el centenario de la llegada a Francia de la icónica artista de music-hall y los 50 años de su fallecimiento. Como resistente, activista antirracista y artista comprometida, simboliza los valores de la República. La escultura, creada por Lucas Bouan Tsobgny, un joven graduado de Bellas Artes de París, fue seleccionada tras un concurso. El busto, que integra sus medallas y un discreto cinturón de plátanos, se instalará en el ayuntamiento. El alcalde, Olivier Corzani, destacó que esta elección refleja la identidad diversa y comprometida de la ciudad. Desde su entrada en el Panteón, muchos lugares llevan el nombre de Joséphine Baker, mostrando su legado universal y su influencia perdurable.
